Film Roles

Film Roles
We all need specific roles to help the making of our film a more organised process. When it comes to a director, we have decided that we won't be having one specific director. We will make all the decisions as a group instead of individually to ensure that the best decision is made. We decided that everyone should be an actor in the film even if only for a couple seconds. This could be through being a main character or just an extra. Also, we will all be having a go at everything. So everyone will do a bit of editing, acting, etc. The roles stated below are just our main roles that are subject to change.

Jess
Jess is playing the main character in our film. She is playing the girl who ends up being a victim. It would be difficult for her to take a leading role in filming or directing as she has so much screen time.  So, we decided that she can have a main role in editing as it doesn't take place at the same time as filming so it wouldn't clash with her being the main character. She will be focusing on costume design, editing and being an actor.

Gemma
Gemma has expressed an interest in set design. So, she'll be working on what things are in the set and also help with framing to make sure that everything looks perfect. She also wants to act in it and is very good at photoshop so she will probably play a key role in the use of special effects. She will be focusing on set design, special effects and being an actor.

Holly
Holly was very good at filming during our preliminary task and enjoyed it. Due to this, filming will be one of her main responsibilities. Holly also acted in the preliminary piece so she will be following this up by having an acting role in this film. As Holly will be filming, she'll easily be able to keep an eye on how the sound is going so sound will be another responsibility for her. She will be focusing on filming, sound and being an actor.

Katie
Katie didn't get a chance to film much during the preliminary task as she was the main character. So, filming will be one of her main responsibilities. She isn't that interesting in an acting role except a small one. She also is interested in the hair and makeup side of things. She will be focusing on filming and hair and makeup.

Target Audience

Our target audience is 16-24 year olds. We have chosen this age range for a number of reasons. These include

  • Mature Themes
  • Social Media
  • Main Character
Mature Themes
Our film has some very dark themes so we think that targeting any age below sixteen could be a bad idea as the children wouldn't understand the plot and would be scared by it.

Social Media
Social media features very heavily in our film so we need to have an audience that understands it. So, we thought teenagers were best for this as that is the age group that uses social media the most. We also thought that the film shouldn't be targeted at elderly people as they'd be less likely to understand social media. Also, teenagers would be able to relate with social medias and the problems with it the most.

Main Character
Our main character is a female teenager. This means lots of the target audience either know someone like her or are like her. Also, her costume would be relatable as it consists of things lots of teenagers wear. They'd also be able to relate to the things our main character does as she is quite a stereotypical portrayal of a teenager.

Set
Part of it is set in a school which teenagers would be able to relate to and they'd be the most likely to understand the school setting and how scary it can be when someone (e.g. the panda guy) invades this safe space.

Storyboard

We also have a video to go alongside this. The video shows the pictures with the text spoken.

Masked Storyboard

Our film begins with a shot of a YouTube page. On the YouTube page is a title ‘Masked’ and a collection of suggested videos in the corner. One of the suggested videos is labelled ‘What I think about the migrant crisis. The clip on the YouTube page begins to play and it is a long shot of a dark room. In the room is a panda mask on the floor and a girl tied to a chair whilst crying.

Next, we see the YouTube clip stop. The page scrolls down to the comments. There are comments such as “She deserves it after that video” “That’s disgusting” “I like it...” Mixed in with the comments are credits to show who has done what. In this shot, the audience can also see the likes and dislikes on the video. The audience can see what the ‘general public’ think of the video which could help them decide what to think of the main character and whether or not she deserved it. The poster of the video is shown by the word ‘Anonymous.

The next scene is of friends (including the tied up girl) walking through their school. They walk past a window, giggling and chatting. The camera then zooms in to the window. Standing outside is a man in a panda mask.

Following that, we see a close up of the girls chatting as they leave the building. It is then a longshot that we see of them as the panda man is filming them and the camera is looking over his shoulder so we see his phone filming them. We can hear heavy breathing of the panda guy whilst he is hiding in the bushes.

The girls then part ways and the main girl begins to vlog using her phone. The panda guy then approaches her and knocks into her. She drops her phone on the floor and there is a couple seconds where she just stares at him. “I dislike,” he says, referring to the YouTube like/dislike option.

The girl then goes on to run away from him. As she runs around a corner, the camera angle is shown to be on top of a wall. Through editing, we will make it look like CCTV footage.

After running, the girl ends up in a wooded area. The camera does a close up roll around her. She is out of breath and terrified. She is surrounded by random bystanders filming her. She screams at them to help her but they are completely expressionless.

The panda guy catches up to her and she runs to a nearby tree. She attempts to climb it but he drags her down from it. There is then a blank screen along with a few seconds of silence. Then there is a scream.

There is then a long shot of the girl and panda guy in a creepy room (the one from the YouTube clip). The dialogue consists of her asking him questions such as “What do you want?” and “Who are you?” He doesn’t answer and there is an ECU of the girl’s face. There is then slow motion tracking of the panda mask falling to the floor (the guy took it off). There is an exaggerated sound as it hits the floor.
